Task Description
You are to write an essay on one of the followed topics:
- The creators of the texts we have explored in class deliberately make the audience feel uncomfortable in order to challenge the concept of ‘happily ever after’. Compare and contrast three elements that contribute to this effect across at least two texts you have studied in class (consider narrative structure, characterisation & at least one literary technique).
- Serious issues and tragic events are trivialised when presented in non-literary forms of text. Explain the degree to which you agree with this statement, referring to two or more texts that you have studied this semester.
- “The power of a text resides within the techniques and elements of the medium in which it is portrayed.” Discuss with reference to two or more texts that you have studied this semester.
TAKE-HOME ESSAY DRAFT
As part of this assignment you are required to submit a draft of your essay by the due date. Minimum draft requirement is 500 words – preferably the body paragraphs. Failure to submit a draft will attract a 10 mark penalty from your final score, as per the Gungahlin College English Faculty policy.
