examine some meta-ethical theories: Ethical (or Moral) Realism & Ethical (or Moral) Relativism.
Meta-ethics does NOT propose anything about what we should or shouldn’t do, or how we should act. Meta-ethics deals with the various ways in which we may understand the difference between the right and wrong. Normative ethical theories work on the assumption that there IS a difference, and then propose how to act if one wants to act morally correctly. Meta-ethics examines, for example, what makes one action right and another wrong. But it remains silent on which actions actually are right or wrong – the latter is for normative ethical theories to tell us.
Good question! Your practice philosophical task is to take a moment to think about this: What is it that makes one action ‘right’ and another ‘wrong’?
