Just War Paper
Read the entirety of the article very carefully and be sure to understand it. Reading is not enough if you don’t “get it.” Be sure to read it as carefully, slowly, and as many times as is necessary in order to comprehend it.
Your response should read as a report on this paper. You should identify whether you agree or not with the author and,
more importantly, outline some of the authors’ specific points and illustrate why or why you do not agree with his assessment.
Below are some questions that may help get you started on your response. Also, I strongly encourage you to choose some
issues from the article that are not listed below and to expand upon them. In short, do what interests you.
What is terrorism? Can we as a nation really wage a War on Terrorism? Why or why not?
Is a Manichean outlook on the world a good one to hold? Is it too simplistic?
Is America’s post-Cold War policy about leadership or hegemony?
Is the Bush doctrine one of preemption or prevention? Why is this distinction important?
What is the “security dilemma” and how does this affect our foreign policy?
Does the Bush doctrine of preemption ultimately act as a stabilizing or destabilizing force?
