EDUC9763 Survey and questionnaire methods
Assignment 2 Report of survey data analysis
In Assignment 1, you developed a draft instrument. Normally, you would have refined the
questionnaire, developed it for administration (in-person, on paper, by telephone or online), and
collected data that you would then analyse. For this assignment, you will use some data that have
been collected in a large-scale survey and report on the results and implications of your analyses.
The skills you demonstrate in this assignment will include those developed in the activities and inclass exercises.

Data analysis
I will provide you with a data file and the questionnaire from which the responses were obtained.
This file will include a few demographic items and several scales –sets of items about particular
constructs to which students responded. These files are available in the Assessment section on
FLO.
Select two scales (constructs) from those available in the data set for analysis.
For the data analysis, you may use either SPSS (available in 3.17 and other computer rooms).
Pose two research questions you can answer using the data available to you. Analyse the data
file. Your analyses will include:
• frequencies for demographic items and responses to construct-related items.
• the reliability (internal consistency) of two scales.
• factor analysis to build an argument for the validity of two scales from the instrument.
Your report
You should describe the target population, the sampling method and the achieved sample. (While I
have tried to make this activity as authentic as possible, you have little control over the sampling
design and sample selection. Nonetheless, I would like you to include this discussion as it is an
issue you would need to discuss in a survey design over which you did have control). This section
should be quite brief – about 250 words.
The report on the administration should include information on the extent of missing responses.
Report on the reliability of the scales and present evidence for the validity of the constructs that
you evaluate.
Use tables to summarise and report your findings. Introduce the tables then draw attention to key
findings within them.
Outline your conclusions and any implications of your findings.
