1. Is the purpose of the paper clear in the thesis statement? Does the purpose of the
essay match the assignment requirement, which is to state a debatable opinion about something related to the idea of happiness?
2. Does the essay give adequate background info? Is the issue defined clearly and
explained sufficiently?
3. Does the body of the essay have a clear organization? (Does the order of body paragraphs make sense?)
4. Does each body paragraph start with a topic sentence that makes that paragraph’s main
point?
5. Does the body of the essay offer enough specific evidence for each reason?
6. Does it look like all borrowed information (quotes, paraphrases, summaries, facts,
statistics) is documented using the APA system? Please note any information that looks
like it needs to be documented but isn’t.
7. Do you see any problems with punctuation, especially punctuation of quotes? (Do you see any dropped quotes – without introduction?)
8. Does the References page include all sources that were cited in the paper? Is the
References page in correct APA format? (Double spaced, Hanging indent, Alphabetical order)?
