Exam III (Chapters 8-11)
This exam has one question: How did America change from the late 1700s to the mid-1800s?
Follow this checklist to do a great essay:
__ Write an essay with at least four pages of writing.
__ Develop a main point related to one or two broad changes in America in the time period. For example, you might discuss how the nation grew economically and geographically, or you might discuss political changes, race relations, or the roles on women.
__ Make sure you have material ranging from the late 1700s to the mid-1800s. Show how American changed during the whole time period. (You could tell it like a story. If you like, you could show what a person would experience living through this time period.)
__ Use material from our Global Americans textbook, Chapters 8-11. You may also use material from from Connecting California if you find it especially helpful.
__ Use ten key terms or questions from the reading handouts to develop your main points. Put the key terms in bold or put a few key words from the questions in bold.
__ Include at least five pictures. (The pictures do not count toward the four pages, but what you write about the pictures does count.)
__ Explain how the pictures help us understand the key points you are making. Integrate the pictures with the writing so they reinforce concepts and events you discuss.
__ Write in short paragraphs. Four or five sentences can make a great paragraph.
__ In your first paragraph, give an overview of the kinds of changes you will discuss.
__ In your last paragraph, note how the country we live in today was shaped by the changes discussed. You might also note how the history helps us understand ourselves or our world.
