Your assignment is to work on a new anthology of literature. You will be working on one of the sections on a specific subject. You choose the subject and then four works we have read this semester (you must include at least one poem and one short story) that deal with that subject in some way. At the beginning of the paper, you will write a 300-500 word introduction to the subject and a general introduction to the four readings you have chosen. Use the sample introductions on pp. 888, 896, and 904 as guides.
The introduction should note why the subject you chose is an important one and why your selections are good examples of this subject. Then for each reading, present a brief overview of (do not summarize the entire work) and an analysis of how the theme relates to the subject you have chosen. Remember that the subject is what the poem/story/play is about and the theme is what the author says about that subject.
You must incorporate four research sources in your paper (articles written either about the subject or the readings), properly documented in MLA format. Along with a works cited page, you will need to compile an online webliography of 4 useful resources for the authors, readings, and/or subject.
Your paper must be at least 5 pages long, not counting the works cited page and the webliography. You can use parts of previous papers that you have written for this class in this assignment.
Some suggested subjects: male/female relationships, identity, parent/child relationships, intolerance, love, redemption, women’s rights, death, loss, regret.
