Ethnoarchaeology requires that you go to a public place and monitor an activity (students studying at the student center, people at a coffee shop or restaurant, people at church, people in a park, people at a sporting event or concert—FYI: it will behoove you to monitor an activity that produces much refuse). Take notes about what people are doing, how many people are present, what is the sex ratio, monitor the space they use—how large of a space do they occupy, etc. – 15 possible points
After everyone has left the area, make a detailed map of the remains. Analyze the refuse area carefully. Study your map and attempt to use the trash/remains to recreate the behavior and/or activity you originally observed. What can you determine from the remains? Number of people? Sex ratios? Activities? Waste? Abundance? Any other aspects of culture? List this information – 15 possible points.
Write up a two-page report in which you discuss your findings. Please submit this report online. Be sure to include discrepancies between the notes you took and what you actually found at the activity site. – 20 possible points
