1. Explain Lincoln’s view of the political problems
Paper details:
Explain Lincoln’s view of the political problems inherent in maintaining (or “perpetuating”) a republican/democratic form of government (as discussed in his “Young Men’s Lyceum Speech”). Why is maintaining in some sense harder than founding? Why is it difficult to maintain the rule of law? Is Lincoln arguing the law is always just? How does Lincoln square the fact of manifest inequality (“the family of the lion”) with a defense of egalitarian self-rule? The source that needs to be used is from the book Abraham Lincoln, selected speeches and writings. the pages that will be quoted from are from 13-21, because the paper need to be based off the address to the young men’s lyceum of Springfield,Illinois. Jan. 29, 1838. Please make sure you mention fear and ambition in the paper as well. Only use 5 quotes is you do quote from the reading
2. Describe an ethical situation that occurs in criminal justice
Pick and describe an ethical situation that occurs in criminal justice.
Explain this ethical situation from the perspective of all parties involved.
For example, if you are going to explain police brutality ethics give the perspective of the victim and the perspective of the police officer (if there are other persons connected to this issue such as members of the community, political arena and so forth include these persons perspectives too). But, do not give a one-sided perspective of the issue.
Finally explain a new & better way to approach this ethical situation. Identify strengths and weaknesses of traditional method(s) (and use the literature to support your claims). Make sure when demonstrating a method of your own to identify strengths and limitations of your method. Clearly demonstrate why your method will overcome the failures of the former and current traditional methods used in criminal justice.
Write a paper that answers all the questions above. What is important is your ability to answer the questions above and support your argument with evidence from the readings (and or academic/scholarly literature outside of the readings).
