VISUAL or AUDITORY DISABILITY
- Prepare a “presentation” that you might facilitate at a conference.
- The “presentation” should provide an overview of the disability including its interrelationship with cognitive, affective and psychomotor
- When presenting the disability be sure to present the overall impact of the disability on the individual not just the symptoms and functional limitations.
- Describe the implications this condition might have on recreation programming including, barriers to participation (someone with lung disease shouldn’t participate in a woodworking project that produces fine wood particles from sanding).
- Present a list of (five to six) therapeutic recreation activities that this individual would benefit from and explain why.
- Prepare a resource “handout” for the delegates at your presentation. This resource handout should include a list of organizations (with the web addresses) that advocate for, provide services to and/or educational materials for individuals with this disability. The resource guide should include a few websites that would provide valuable information for the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist that works with this individual, this should include research articles.
- prepare a position statement on why you believe it is necessary for the Therapeutic Recreation profession and professionals to advocate for and provide services to this population.
Remember this is NOT a presentation but a paper or “outline” of a presentation you would present at a conference.
