Project Title: Literature Review and an Interview with an HR Practitioner in a sizeable UAE Organization

For the project, you will be required to: 1) explore, in depth, a topic pertaining to HR (choose a topic from the list below), and 2) interview a Human Resource Manager of a sizeable organization and find out more about that topic and how it applies within his/her organization.
Take note: You can select any of the HRM topics listed below as the major theme of your literature review and interview.

The report should be 6-8 pages in length (and no more than EIGHT pages), typed in 12 pts. Times New Roman font and 1.5 line spacing. Margins of 25 mm all round (top, bottom, right and left) should be used. The citations of references in the text should be according to the APA referencing style. A minimum of 6 references will be required. No late work will be accepted.
Each presentation should be 20-25 mins long. The deadline for submitting the report (both a hard copy and a soft copy) is week 12-13. The soft copy will need to be submitted before class on that day through Moodle, AND you will also be required to bring a hard copy of your report with you to class. You are encouraged to be creative in your approach to presentation and may employ visual aids or other teaching tools which enhance the clarity of the presentation and make it more informative and interesting. Plagiarism:
You are not allowed to copy and paste any material from the internet of your fellow colleagues. However, some amount of work maybe somewhat similar to the material available on the website due to the utilization of details about the company background but I still recommend writing it in your own words to make it a genuine study.
Marks:
The final project carries 30% in total (see attached marking criteria for your guidance).
The interview could cover several parts including:
- Introduction and overview of the company
- HR issue/problem the company has been facing, or has faced in the past (related to the chosen topic)
- Solutions implemented to rectify the issue/problem
- The interview can also discuss the human resource planning process the organization undertakes for the short-term, medium-term, and the long-term.
Some possible general interview questions could include the following. You will have come up with some more questions tailored to fit with your topic:
– How long the company has been operational?
– What exactly does it do? Which sector does it belong to?
– Number of employees, departments of the company?
– A brief history on how the company was established / mission-vision, etc.
– How big is the HR department of the company?
– What problems are commonly experienced?
– Which problem are you addressing? Details of the problem
– What were/are the possible strategies to the problem area shared?
– How the HR department chose the one which was finally implemented?
– Has the problem completely diminished or does it still exist?
– And any other questions relevant to your chosen topic.
