Please write your response in essay form, with at least one paragraph for each element below. The target length is 300-400 words (1.25 to 1.75 pages, if you double space).
- Briefly describe the tribe. What were the tribe’s core values, and its noble cause?
- Which of the tribe’s core values matched your own core values? Was the overlay small or large? Explain.
- Who were the tribal leaders, and what was the result of their leadership? Explain.
- What was the tribe’s dominant culture stage? Explain.
- What could have been done, or what was done, to move the tribe to the next higher level of tribal culture? Explain.
- Pretend you are part of an “oil change” exercise with the tribe, as described in Chapter 9 of the Tribal Leadership. Provide brief answers to each of the four questions listed.
- (10 pts) How can you “own” Stage 3 as a junior engineer in your job after you graduate from Ohio University? What does success look like? How will you know when you’ve arrived? Target length 40-50 words, in brief essay form.
- (15 pts) Assume that you have achieved all that you aimed for in question 2 above. Assume also that your work “tribe” exists at Stage 3, but you have had the “epiphany” in which you realize that individual success is not enough. Answer the following questions, again in brief essay form. Target length 100-120 words.
- (5 pts) What are some ways can you create a “pocket” of Stage 4 culture within your tribe? Which of the three approaches would you probably try first?
- (5 pts) How would you recognize other people who might be ready to join you in creating this Stage 4 pocket? How would you recognize people who were definitely not ready?
- (5 pts) What noble cause and core values would you propose? You can make assumptions about the type of work you might be in (e.g., hospital administration, auto manufacturing, supply chain services, etc.)
- What will likely be your greatest strength in becoming a tribal leader? What will likely be your greatest challenge, and how can you compensate to bring it up to a functioning level?
