- A successful paper will be at least two pages up to the maximum listed below in categories.
- Your unit paper must discuss an ethical dilemma that stems from the unit subject material.
- Your paper must cite at least two sources from the week’s read/watch/listen sources.

- You need a reference page (see citations pagefor details).
- You paper must follow conventions (Conventions include spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and sentence structure.)
- Below are a list of types of papers/writing grouped into two categories (Research Papers and Creative Writing). For your four unit papers, you must choose at least three different types of papers, and at least one from each category. Be sure to indicate what type of paper you choose for each week.
Type of Paper:
Category 2 (Creative Writing) – a maximum of 10 pages. Choose one of the types:Play orShort Story orPoem
- Play – A playis a form of literature written by a playwright, usually consisting of dialogue between characters, intended for theatrical performance rather than just reading. However, you need not perform you play, only write it. The purpose of your play could be inform or persuade the audience, but you still need to have your citations. You could incorporate the citations into the play itself (i.e. Susan: “According to Edward Smith, …..”) or you can use footnotes in order to not interrupt the flow of the play.
- Short Story – A short story is an invented prose narrative shorter than a novel usually dealing with a few characters and aiming at unity of effect and often concentrating on the creation of mood rather than plot. Again, you still need citations. You could incorporate the citations into the story itself (i.e. Susan said, “According to Edward Smith, …..”) or you can use footnotes in order to not interrupt the flow of the story.
- Poem – A poem is a a piece of writing that partakes of the nature of both speech and song that is nearly always rhythmical, usually metaphorical, and often exhibits such formal elements as meter, rhyme, and stanzaic structure. Again, you still need citations. You could incorporate the citations into the poem itself (i.e. Susan said, “According to Edward Smith, …..”) or you can use footnotes in order to not interrupt the flow of the poem. Also, you still must meet the two page minimum, so you either need a poem with many stanzas or you can include an analysis of your poem.
