Paper details:
Using the attached document, discuss the major changes in food technology which will impact on food production in both Australia and beyond. Describe how changes in demographics in Australia and globally will affect food production. Some changes to consider addressing; increasing longevity – people are living longer and there are more of them, implication of increasing population. Increasing urbanisation – both globally and locally, extends the food chain, links farmer to eater, spread of supermarkets. Globalisation of the food market – Large companies controlling large shares of trade in agriculture, manufacturing and retail. Increasing technological change- these offer different actors varying kinds of control over their parts of the food system. For example, multinational companies have the patents over various genetically modified foods.Changes in attitudes and values by consumers – increased consumer interest in environmental sustainability; decreasing self-centredness of the ‘me’ generation.
