Assignment: Write a 6-8 page proposal argument that proposes a practical, “nuts-and-bolts solution” to the community problem you’ve been exploring throughout the semester. Your rhetorical aim for this project is to call areal target audience – the person or organization with the power to effect the change you are calling for – to action. In other words, your proposal should persuade your selected reader to actually implement the practical solution you have proposed.
To achieve your persuasive aim, your proposal should have three main sections and a conclusion:
1. Problem: Creates presence for the problem and describes it in ways that appeals to the interests and values of the audience.
2. Solution: Presents a workable, practical solution succinctly and clearly.
3. Justification. Creates strong justification arguments designed to persuade the target audience that the proposed solution should be enacted (through arguments from principle, consequence, and arguments from precedent or analogy (Ramage, et. al. 512).
4. Conclusion: Brings sense of closure to proposal and asks readers to act
