The second song presentation of the term must use a power point presentation and song or tune (music without words) to demonstrate culture. You may choose to do the assignment on the primary or secondary (heritage) culture you identify with, or you may select a culture present in our society separate from yourself.
The song and related presentation must demonstrate the culture by defining it and placing it within the society where the culture functions. You may do a counter or subculture.
The presentation will be no longer than three (3) Minutes and you will be required to present the cultural identity and define why the song/tune are elements of the culture or the means to identify it.
You will submit, a reference supported paper, three to four pages in length in support of your assertions.
Grading rubric and structural guidelines:
The paper shall be 3 to 4 pages of double spaced text. Typewritten in times new roman font size 12. The margins settings will be 1 inch on all sides. You must also have a separate reference page listing all sources used in the paper and you need to use in text citation following the APA style. See the Perdue OWL webpage for guidance. Grade:
20 Points: Proper Grammar and structure.
10 Points: What is culture?
20 Points: A clear statement of what culture the song is depicting.
20 Points: Demonstration of the origins of the song/tune and place it within a culture group. and
20 Points: Explain the song/tune’s particular role or message that represents a cultural element important to socialization.
10 Points How well or how successful was the song writer or performer in expressing the cultural element of the song? What demonstrates this.
