Demonstrate a critical perspective on fundamental ecclesial themes in the New Testament and of major historical landmarks influencing the Church’s development
Order Description
‘Throughout the period covered by the New Testament there were both diversity and development in the various local churches … On the other hand, one can also find some degree of unity within the various ecclesiologies of the New Testament’. (McBrien, 23) (McBrien, Richard. The Church: The Evolution of Catholicism. New York: HarperCollins, 2008). Diversity and development also marked the post-biblical period before Vatican I.
Identify several ecclesiologies of the New Testament period. How were they different from each other, and what elements did they share? Identify and outline 2-3 significant ecclesiologies in the period that followed up to Vatican I.
Compare and contrast them with the New Testament ecclesiogies you have named. Reflect on one or two understandings of church that you find appealing and relevant; and on one or two that you find challenging.
