View the following film: “Times Beach Missouri” (this film can be viewed at the following link: https://uni.kanopy.com/video/times-beach-missouri ).Once you have viewed the film, answer the following questions below and submit your work by the due date. Late papers will be assigned a penalty.
1.What hazardous substances and/or situations played a role in the film you viewed and what toxic effects are they known or suspected
of having in human and/or animal populations?
2. What regulations control these substances/situations? Name environmental laws/ health regulations, that currently are or may be used to control the situation described in the film you viewed?
3. Was civil or environmental law (or both) used to seek damages in the film you viewed? Were criminal penalties assigned? Were loopholes in the law used to “game” the system? Or, is the law too expansive and over-reaching?
4. In your opinion how could liability have been avoided by those featured in the film; recommend a preventative action plan for future hazardous materials management. Or, describe how the law needs to change to close loopholes or eliminate injustices that were brought up in the film.
5. Do you think that the penalties assigned/legal redress obtained were fair, adequate, and appropriate? Why or why not? What would bring a better balance of justice to this situation while protecting environmental and/or public health?
