Topic and scope
Select a theme of your choice about gender in video games and culture. Through careful observation and analysis, you must utilize the reading provided to connect your theme in more depth with your experience at Dave & Busters gaming center. Please note that you are analyzing about video games, but you are welcome to connect arcade games in your writing with your trip to Dave and Busters. You could, for example, explore how the materiality of the venue is involved in the construction of play onsite or how gender is being “done” there. The key is that you do a deep analytic dive, demonstrating your original thinking and application of the concepts.
Specs
• Your overall word count for the piece should be 2000 words (+/- 10% is fine).
• Make sure you have a thesis that you provide evidence for your argument later through your body paragraphs.
• Make sure what is at stake/why it matters is clear in the argument you are making.
• You should direct your paper to answer these suggested questions:
o What am I interested in talking about?
o What did I observe through my trip?
o Describe and analyze the situation and connect to my own experience.
o Why does it matter to the readers?
• You must engage with (i.e. draw on, cite, quote) at least 3 provided scholarly articles related to your topic (pick any article you like and connect with your own experience). One must be from Stellar (labeled as (Stellar) for those files provided), and another one must be from my list (labeled as (List) for those files provided). If you need further research, please feel free to consult from other sources, but make sure you cite your work.
• You should use the Chicago Manual of Style or APA conventions for quoting and citing work.
