Retrieved on November 5, 2014 from https://www.ucsfchildcarehealth.org/pdfs/Checklists/HS_Checklist.pdf to practice evaluating your chosen early care and education site. You are not required to go through the entire checklist. You may choose from the following sections to evaluate the site:
The Facilities section only
OR
The Supervision AND the Sanitation sections.
Keep the evaluation strictly private and confidential and do not share it with the site. It is not a professional evaluation, because you have not been trained and vetted as evaluators.
5. Write three to four (3-4) pages about how the site fared. Answer each of the following questions as thoroughly as possible.
a. What did you learn about the center?
b. What did you learn about health and safety standards?
c. What health and safety issues could be improved at the site and why?
d. If you could improve the health and safety of the site what would you do?
e. What would be the most difficult to improve? Why?
f. What do you think would be the easiest portion to update or improve? Why?
6. Reflection. Write one to two (1-2) pages about your experience in evaluating the health and safety of an early care and education site Address the following questions:
a. Which specific Topics from the Health, Safety and Nutrition Competency did this assignment address for you and how? (refer to the California Early Childhood Educator Competencies https://www.ececompsat.org/updated/docs/ececompetencies2011.pdf#page=87)
b. How did this assignment help you in increasing your competency in Health, Safety and Nutrition? (refer to the California Early Childhood Educator Competencies https://www.ececompsat.org/updated/docs/ececompetencies2011.pdf#page=87)
c. How is this assignment integrated with our readings in Marotz (2015, and the CDE (2011) California Preschool Curriculum Framework, Vol. 2? (Be detailed – tie specific passages in the texts to your work on the checklist.)
