Choose ONE of the following prompts and write a 4-6 page paper in response:
#1 Choose ONE play from the three required course texts (Plautus, Terence, or Seneca) that was NOT a required reading and write a paper that situates the play in its historical context. You should identify an issue (slavery, war, Greek vs. traditional Roman culture, social role of women, Roman politics, etc.) that you would argue your chosen play makes a statement about, and bring in at least one other ancient source that sheds light on the issue to demonstrate the play’s contemporary relevance. You do not need to do reading/research outside your play and this other source to earn a good grade, but you should properly cite all outside sources that you consult.
