Description:
Since Colonial times, Americans used the opportunity of daily newspapers to write a
letter to the editor of their local newspapers- The point of the letter is to support or
oppose something already in the news, make a point that was omitted, or disagree
with or correct something you think is misinformation from a news story, editorial or
another letter.
Most letters to the editor these days are about 200-250 words- Sometimes it is more
of a challenge to write a shorter piece than a standard five paragraph essay- You are
NOT required to cite souces, however, it you use a souce you must cite it properly-
Ohoose a newspaper or magazine for you letter to the editor and include that into in
you assignment- it could be the Huntsville Times, The New York Times, USA Today,
or any other newspaper.
