1. Oratory and Rhetorical Masters
Write a 3 paragraph response in which you identify rhetorical strategies used by Benjamin Franklin and Samson Occam, along with particularly eloquent points of argument. Do the two writers address similar problems? Identify the problems both writers address in their arguments. What is the social context of those problems? Provide at least 4 examples from the assigned texts to illustrate your points and ideas.
***Use proper MLA punctuation and in-text documentation to cite the quotes.
***Include 2 correct works cited entries at the end.
***Underline and embolden the thesis statement.
Week IV: The Enlightenment & Radical Change in Colonial America
Benjamin Franklin (204-283)
Samson Occom (284-305)
2. Excel Project for business statistics
The Excel file contains data for fourteen variables from college students at University of California – Davis. The data are the responses of a survey of students during the Fall quarter of 2000. You will find an explanation of what the columns mean inside the file in Column P. The sample dataset gives you a peek into certain characteristics of a general population of interest. Analyze the data using the various concepts and Excel tools you have learned so far. Then pretending you’re writing for an academic journal (not to a Statistics professor), write a Word document explaining the results of your analysis. The paper must be written in essay format and must contain the following: 1. A title page with the title, name, and date. 2. An introduction. 3. The body divided in two parts (see below). 4. A short conclusion. The two parts of the body are:
Part 1: General descriptive statistics.
Using tables, graphs, and statistics describe general traits of the population like GPA, height, and handedness. You must analyze the shape, the center, and the spread for quantitative data. You must do this for at least four variables, two of which must be categorical and two numerical.
Part 2: GPA analysis.
Using a variety of graphs and statistics, analyze how GPA is affected by at least three different variables like ‘Sex’, ‘Seat’, ‘Alcohol’, and ‘Looks’. For example, to analyze how ‘sex’ affects ‘GPA’, you could create two frequency polygons for GPA; one for females and one for males, and then compare the two. Hint: To do this, you could sort the data so that all the females are listed first and the males are listed second.
Notes: 1. To place a graph in your paper, first create the graph in Excel, right-click on it, and copy it. Then right-click and paste in the word document. 2. Your paper must contain all of the following: A frequency table, a pie chart or a bar graph, a histogram or a frequency polygon, and a scatterplot. 3. Your paper must contain at least one comparison of standard deviations. Analyze the comparison. 4. All graphs must contain a graph title and, whenever possible, axis titles. 5. You will be graded on both knowledge base and quality. Knowledge base means that your paper shows that you have a proper understanding of the concepts and skills of basic descriptive Statistics and that you know how to handle Excel. I expect a high quality paper that has been thoroughly checked for presentation, grammar, and spelling.
