PATHOPHYSIOLOGY – COURSE RESEARCH PAPER (CRP) – 75 points
Read this entire document and review the grading criteria prior to beginning.
Conduct research on a human disease that you are interested in learning more about. Write a 4-5 page paper discussing your findings.
1. 4-5 double spaced pages, Times New Roman font, 1” margins; also include a cover page and reference page – your final paper should be 5-6 pages total, turned in as one complete document, in a Word format (not pdf).
2.The cover page should include the name of your paper, your name, and the name of the course, centered horizontally and vertically.
3.The paper, including reference page, should be in APA style.
4.Cite all references using in-text citations; paper should include at least 3 references – your text book may be used as one of the three references (No more than 5 resources should be used or necessary). References must be within the last five years. Remember – cite sources when you use more than three consecutive words from any sentence from your references – this means not only listing them on the resource page, but also using in-text citations where necessary. Points will not be given for any paper lacking in-text citations and/or a reference is not included on the reference page. Your paper should not consist entirely of citations – show in your writing that you comprehended the material. Again, any plagiarized papers will receive a zero grade.
5.What do you plan to write about? Consider items such as definition, what body system is affected, how it affects the body, treatment options, patient education, incidence of the disease in your state or country or world-wide, preventative measures, life expectancy, how the disease affects other body systems, etc. Your final paper does not have to follow your outline exactly, but be close. The outline will help you to determine exactly what you want to cover in your paper – remember it is only 4-5 pages double spaced, so most likely you will not be able to cover all the items listed above. (See sample outline in red below.)
6.Resource list – provide a list of resources you will use to write your paper. These do not have to be your final resources, but you should begin researching for credible sources that cover the items listed in your outline. The resources should be presented in proper APA style.
7.This Course Research Paper (CRP) is worth a total of 75 points – follow the grading criteria on the “Course Research Paper – Grading Criteria” document included in the CONTENT section of this course.
Sample Outline:
I. Definition
A. Genetics
B. Populations affected
II. Signs and symptoms
III. Diagnosing the disease
IV. Pathology
V. Treatment
VI. Patient education
This is a quick outline example – you would add additional items below each numbered item similar to Roman numeral I above – no need for much detail at this point as you are just getting your paper organized into what you want to cover and in what order.
