Project 1 Memo
Purpose The U.S. economy looks very different now compared to 60 years ago. The U.S. economy was built on making products but since 1947 there has been a shrinkage of manufacturing despite the growth of manufacturing throughout the world. The U.S. shifted to a service economy. However, there has been a movement to bring manufacturing back to the United States. The ‘Made in America’ movement is currently underway and is a critical initiative in the business world. In this project, you will learn about the ‘Made in America’ label, what it means for businesses, consumers and the economy of the United States.
Outcomes Met With This Project · discuss the financial, economic, regulatory, sociopolitical, and technological factors as they relate to a dynamic business environment · identify the critical business functions and how they interact in order to position the organization to be effective in the current business environment
This project is the first of two projects. You will read a case scenario related to ‘Made in America.’ This project requires you to research ‘Made in America’ and using the research, write a memo addressing the required elements of the project. A requirement of this project is to write a memorandum. In business, a memorandum is an internal communication. When writing a memorandum, it is important to address the information that needs to be conveyed in a concise manner. Therefore, how the memorandum is written is a critical part of this project. This memorandum is informational so what is presented must be accurately presented. You are not offering opinion and you are not posing questions. Following the format for a memorandum is a must. The expectation is that you provide a robust use of the course readings and research to support ideas, reasoning and conclusions. This means that you will present an idea and then use your research and the course readings to explain what you presented. Stringing one sentence after another using the course readings or research does not meet the requirement and does not demonstrate critical thinking. Critical thinking is demonstrated when the “why and how” and the “who and what” are thoroughly explained. NOTE: All submitted work is to be your original work. You may not use any work from another student, the Internet or an online clearinghouse. You are expected to understand the Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism Policy, and know that it is your responsibility to learn about instructor and general academic expectations with regard to proper citation of sources as specified in the APA Publication Manual, 6th Ed. (Students are held accountable for in-text citations and an associated reference list only). Serious sanctions can result from violations of any type of the Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism including a zero on a project, a zero for the course or dismissal from the University.
Read the following: Christian Siriano is the owner of New Age Creations, a small apparel manufacturing business. As of late, Siriano has been watching ABC World News Tonight with David Muir and just this morning read, Remarks at a “Made in America” Roundtable Discussion. Siriano called you into his office for a meeting and during the meeting, he shared a statement that President Trump made during the Roundtable Discussion, which was “Made in America” is more than a label or a product.” Siriano is intrigued by the ‘Made in America’ movement and wants to know more. Siriano admits to not knowing very much about the label. However, he believes New Age Creations is eligible because the majority of the fabric used in its products are made in-house. What is not made in-house comes from the New England Fabric and Trim cooperative for which the company is a member. Siriano asked you to research the Made in America standards and requirements. He asked you to send him a memo that addresses the following: · Identify and discuss the requirements for New Age Creations to sell its products with a ‘Made in America label;’ · If New Age Creations decides to move to the ‘Made in America’ label, what are the implications for the company in terms of complying with the requirements and for the company’s competitive advantage in the marketplace; · Discuss the implications for New Age Creation’s customers if the company moves to this label; · Discuss the implications of ‘Made in America’ on American consumers and workers. · Drawing from the course material, what are the implications of ‘Made in America’ on the U.S. economy? On the economy of other countries? Siriano wants you to review the following articles and videos on ‘Made in America’ to become familiar with the movement.
