Focusing on the region you selected in class from the handout (South America.), your paper will need to answer the following in your geography paper:
(1) What are the key physical features of the region? This can be mountains, plains, islands, bodies of water, climate, etc.
( (2) Describe the core-periphery relation, both internally to your regional and how your region would be designated in the world as a whole (see handout). This would include population centers (cities) and their location in relation to physical features of the region (along rivers, the coast). This would also explain where most of the people live within your region and how much the human populations have altered the landscape.
(3) What are the political and cultural characteristics of the region? Is it divided up into several political entities (countries) or is it one big country? Culturally is it fairly similar (sharing a common religion, language, etc.) or is it diverse? If it includes political borders, are these mainly soft or hard borders (see reading)? Here you would also want to briefly list some of the religions and cultures in the region.
(4) Describe some of the main characteristics of the population (age distribution, general health, life expectancy, common diseases, birth rate, wealth, education level). Also, if there are vast differences within the region in one or more of these characteristics you would want to analyze why this might be
