The Family of Origin Project can be a very therapeutic tool for clients. You will complete this project with the mindset of a human services professional working with a client. A case study approach will be utilized throughout the process.
You can use a fictitious client, a client that you work with, yourself, or another situation as your case. You must keep confidential all names and personal information. Please use fake names to keep confidentiality.
Please follow this format:
1. The Family System
Provide a case summary and a description of the client’s family system. Include the characteristics of the family impairment (Chapter 1). Include a genogram (optional)
2. Coping Strategies
Identify the coping strategies that the client presents with(Chapter 3)
3. Hypothesis
Generate a hypothesis about the client’s family of origin issues (Chapter 6)
4. Goals of Recovery and Treatment
Set specific goals in relation to the client’s presenting issues. Include a home work assignment (Chapter 4)
5. The Therapeutic Relationship (Chapters 7-8)
Describe your approach with the client. Include examples of your posture and embedded messages.
Describe how you will affirm the client’s self-worth.
How do you anticipate the client will react based upon his or her family of origin issues?
What issues might need to be addressed based upon your own family of origin issues?
Requirements of the Family of Origin Project
(Project due date can be found on the calendar)
Failure to successfully complete any part of the project can result in no credit or a loss of a letter grade.
There is no requirement for the length of the project. Grading will be based upon the demonstration of your understanding of the coursework.
Projects will be submitted via a drop box in the lessons tab.
