Answer the following questions in paragraph format. Focus on the quality and depth of your responses, and consider all the content we covered in class. There is no page limit, but please take this opportunity to demonstrate that you’ve gained knowledge, skills, and tools in each of these areas.
Submit your assignment as a Word or .pdf document to Canvas by the deadline.
- What are three key things you learned from the course? How will you implement each of these into your career and life planning?
- What experiences do you want or need in your remaining time in college to be competitive in your desired career field? (Think courses, volunteerism, internships, clubs, skills, networking opportunities, etc.). Do your best to list your next steps for taking action on each of these goals.
- Identify three professionals you would like to network with before or during your job search (internship or full-time position). Share who the person is, why you want to network with him or her, and your strategy for reaching out (i.e. family friend I can reach out to during winter break or second degree connection through LinkedIn, etc.). When describing your strategy for networking, list one or two action steps specific to each person (research, method of contact, what you’re asking, etc.)
- Describe how your thinking about your career goals evolved during this class. Consider the following questions and add any additional information:
- Did this course (or related activities) help validate my current career choice?
- Did this course (or the related activities) make me consider new or different careers?
- Did this course make me more aware of my strengths, values, and work preferences and how to apply them during a job search?
- What are two resources that you will use in your internship or job search and how will they help you? Be specific about features or components that you like, find useful, etc. Consider online, print, and personal resources.
- Write a SMART goal for your career planning over the next three months. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time Bound.) Create two or three action steps to help get you started.
